The National “Pitch & Putt” Team emerged victorious in the “XIV Match España–Portugal,” defeating the team of “our Spanish neighbors” by 7–5.
It is worth highlighting the presence of Matteo Blazer, a player from Amendoeira Golf Club, in the national squad.
Held at Sherry Golf in Jerez de la Frontera, the competition featured Arnaldo Paredes, António Tendeiro, Hugo Espírito Santo and João Monteiro (all athletes from Quinta das Lágrimas), Tomás Ribeiro (Paredes), and Matteo Balzer (Amendoeira) representing Portugal.
Yesterday’s round included the “Fourball” matches — won by Portugal 2–1 — and the “Foursomes,” which the Spanish team won by the same score.
With the overall score tied at 3–3, today’s individual matches were decisive.
The Portuguese team won three matches (Tomás Ribeiro vs. Cesar Crespo, 2/1; Hugo Espírito Santo vs. Cesar Fernandez de Caleya, 3&2; and Matteo Balzer vs. Hugo Carro Cortes, 2&1), drew two (João Monteiro against Noel Leon Calzadilla, and António Tendeiro against Javier Perez Gomez), and lost only one (Anton Perez Medin vs. Arnaldo Paredes, 3&2).
Today, Portugal’s superiority by 4–2 sealed the final victory at 7–5.
The event has been held since 2007, and this was Portugal’s fifth win (and third consecutive).
